Got out yesterday in the wind and rain.
It was a crazy ride! Hamlin rocks!
The singletrack on Devil's Nose is
compacted sand so it can be ridden
all the time. The camping loops were
still a bit icy and dicey on the skinny Revolts.

I think my body will just thank me in general. The first ride I went on last week I came back sucking wind so hard and it took a good 15 minutes to get my heart rate under control. But it will be even sweeter once it dries out and I can start hitting up hunters creek and I am not ready to cough up a lung.
Short inaugural ride in town on the kona today. I put on my fox vanilla fork, a new crank, and did a bunch of work on it so I was excited to really try it out. Did some hopping and dropping and discovered my rear shock is a bit too soft. (bottomed out on a 2ft to flat) No prob except I don't have a shock pump. I'll have to borrow one.
all in all a good time. no complaints. The bike is a blast.
_________________
03 Kona Dawg

I got in another quick 10 mile ride in today and managed to fit it in between rain showers. I think it only took me 40-45 minutes so that isn't too shabby, and I have discovered I think I can string together up to a 40 mile out and back that shouldn't involve any actual roads. Hopefully I can find a couple other routes so I can keep doing 3 rides a week. Since tuesday I have ridden the same number of times I have ridden in over a year leading up to then.
Comparing a HT 29er to FS 26er is a reach, especially on trails that we have around here. I remember how much of an eye opener it was to go from a HT to a FS, and have no intensions of going back. The HT might work where there are super buff trails, like Raystown Lake, in PA.
_________________
www.chumbaracing.com

I have the good fortune to have a boss who buys the newest, specialized bikes every year so this year i got to ride a stumpjumper comp 29 and a specialized epic Marathon.

I was less than impressed with the 29er it felt heavier than my 2006 dawg which is not a light bike. It also seamed to be less precise in the handeling, downright vague when it came to trail feel. I rode it for a full day hoping to lose theese sensations and maby become more intune with the 29er. I was very offput by the experience, it was indeed more work (to get the wheels turning) and less bike feedback that kind of turned me off.

The Epic marathon on the other hand was amazing. This bike was light and climbed like a billy goat. The bike feedback was crisp but the brain soaked up the big hits. Just an amazing experience it accelerated like a rocket up hill, down hill it didn't matter... it was not as point and shoot on the decents as the dawg, but that was expected with the steeper head angle, and more xc feel. I love my dawg for my price point but If I had $7000 to spend on the Epic marathon I might take a closer look.
Very nice. Cross bikes make great road bikes. I've got a Fuji Cross Pro with clip-on fenders and a Surly Long Haul Trucker with full fenders and racks. The fenders are great in the spring to keep the road salt off the parts that rust (which is basically everything except the frame). Later in the year you might want to take them off, but you would definitely lose the cool factor.
My next purchase is some Honjo or Velo-Orange fenders: http://www.velo-orange.com/ho45hafe.html
thats a cool looking bike, looks like it would make a great commuter, otherwise I'd take the fenders and rack off. I ride road regularly if you ever want to get out, i'm not moto, usually a casual 20 miles or so on average.
_________________
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SRAM's website is not helpful for where to send products. But I called them and they recommended these guys for rebuilding my Lyrik....
http://www.mtbsuspensionexperts.com/
Great customer service and they even got RockShox to replace the MissionControl damper on the Lyrik at no cost. Total fork rebuild with all new seals was $120.
Anyway, give SRAM a call and see who they recommend, besides the lazy drunk on Turkey Hill Road.
_________________
www.chumbaracing.com
My new Soma Doublecross... Pretty stoked about this one. First road-bike and hoping to fall in love with it like I did the trails... Anyone in the Ithaca area who's looking to hit the roads while the woods dry, let me know!
I'm swapping them out for a Welgo compatible set... so they'll be up for grabs... make me an offer!
_________________
Confucius Says: Prostitute with Bicycle peddles ass all over town!
Is it 90 or 100mm? I haven't taken the time to see how much of a difference that would make, maybe not much I guess. I am in Buffalo right now and I was just in Roch last weekend so it will probably be a while before I am back that way. What were you thinking of asking for it? I'd certainly be interested, as I know if I buy a new 31.8 stem I'll end up buying new bars and starting a cascade of spending
I posted this before a long time ago on here, sorry for the pictures they aren't the most amazing quality I know. I think I have high res pics available still if anyone is interested I could email them. I'm not sure what to ask at this point as its a pretty old frame now. I figure I'll just throw out there $200 bucks shipped or if you live in the roch/buffalo area I might be able to meet up with you. I'd certainly entertain other offers though as this is just taking up space and I am a poor grad student.
I am selling my 2003 Giant AC 2 frame size medium (18 in). I had new enduro bearings installed and stopped riding it maybe 2 weeks after that when I got a heckler frame. This frame hasn't been used in at least 3 years. I also ordered a new rear derailleur hanger from wheels manufacturing before I swapped to the heckler, and that has never been used. This is for the frame, front XT derailleur, shock, race face seatpost, seatpost collar, and FSA headset. The shock is a manitou swinger 4 way, and the bike can either have 5.3 in of travel or 6.3in depending which hole you choose on the rocker arm.
The frame has no dents in it, but it does have some cable rub from the hydraulic brake hose lines as well as usual wear to the paint you might expect from a used bike.
Before I start looking for a new one I thought I would see if any of you had a 90mm or maybe 100mm stem laying around you wouldn't mind parting with. I am not sure if I am too picky on the rise angle, I just know I have a 80mm one now and feel I have to push my seat too far back to get a comfortable position for my arms. I have 25.4 bars now so that might be preferable, however I think I have a set of OS bars somewhere so might consider 31.8 too. In any case I'll start looking at new ones in the meantime.
Haha, commuting 7 miles roundtrip most days for the past 1.5 years has gotten me in the best riding shape i've ever been in (in 4 or 5 seasons of riding).
I added a core workout every other day a few weeks ago. This season is gonna be good.
My wife has started noticing 4/6 stomach muscles coming out. The other 2 drink too much beer.
_________________
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. ~ George Orwell
