Tuesday Ride Thread

Planning a ride?

The radar is showing a big line of red blobs--thunderstorms--heading our way, scheduled to hit right around 5:45pm. Hail and heavy winds are predicted, so I'm canceling the ride. See you next week!
When in doubt, go faster.

Shall we try Shindagin again? Back to the normal 5:30 start time, meeting at the Braley Hill parking lot. I rode the ridge trails yesterday, and they were wet and slippery, but not muddy at all. They should be dry again by tomorrow.
When in doubt, go faster.

Well, that was fun last night.

I'm sure glad I wear my helmet while riding the 'short bus'
A little banged up but no viable bruises, yet, sure did make it interesting getting out bed this morning.

I'm almost convinced to buy a full-face helmet to wear if/when I ever get up the courage to ride that section of Shortbus after watching you kiss the dirt last night. :dead:

I'm glad you're okay this morning. That looked like it hurt.
When in doubt, go faster.

That would have been awesome, so you could have documented me cleaning the drop up on top.

Hope you are still doing ok Jim!

Does anyone want to ride something different from Shindagin, or are you all okay with that? Unless I hear other suggestions, we'll plan to meet at the Braley Hill gravel lot at 5:30 tomorrow night. It looks like we got some rain over the weekend. A little; a lot? How are the trails?

Shindagin again, 5:30pm at the Braley Hill gravel parking lot. I'll try to get you out of the woods before dark this time.

Here's one of the ride options from last night: http://goo.gl/maps/CI2QW

I had a bad day at work yesterday, and the best way to work off a bad day is to torture myself with climbing, so we did that. A lot of it. It resulted in smiles by the end of the night, though. Sorry to Eva for making your first group ride a sufferfest, but she still did amazing and hope to see her back out on future rides. Fairly big group last night: Christy, Pam, Eva, Mo, Ted, David, Bill, Jimmy and me (plus Domie, Kona, and Woody).

Some riders opted to ride B1 all the way back to the parking lot from IMBA, so they made it into a true climbfest. Eva and I took Twisted Sister over the ridge and back to Braley as we were running out of daylight.
When in doubt, go faster.

Shindagin--Meet at the Braley rd. gravel parking lot at 5:45pm. The folks from Waverly are joining us, so we're starting 15 minutes later to give them time to get here.

Although the plan is to get out of the woods before dark, it's probably a good idea to start charging up and at least carrying your lights with you. You never know when someone will suffer a mechanical that will set us back 10 or 15 minutes. This is a no-drop, socially-paced ride over moderately technical terrain.
When in doubt, go faster.

We'll meet at 5:30pm in the large gravel parking lot on Braley Hill Rd.

Looks like rain is moving into the area, with heavier, steadier rain beginning around 6pm. Thus, I'm cancelling the ride for tonight.

Hopefully Thursday will be drier for the bike demos. !!

I rode..it wasn't bad. Never really rained that hard out there. Wet roots and rocks made the going slow but I still got in 15.53 miles...got out late.

Bring your lights!!!! We probably will need them for the last half hour of the ride. 600 lumens, minimum, is what "they" recommend for night riding.

Let's try for Shindagin again tomorrow night. It looks like rain isn't expect to move in until late Tuesday night. We'll meet at 5:30pm in the large gravel parking lot on Braley Hill Rd. This is a no-drop, socially-paced ride over moderately technical terrain.

Since Bill is more on the ball than I am and already posted for his Thursday ride, I will simply reiterate what he wrote: "The earlier sunset means that we’re squarely in night riding mode from now until club rides end for the season. Expect a slower pace and regular regrouping at intersections. No one will be dropped and left to the zombie woofs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksnwEsPKO5s). I’ve got one full set of lights (handlebar and helmet) to loan out to anyone who wants to check it out and see what night riding is all about.

I’d like to stick to familiar trails as we get started with our night time endeavors, so we’ll meet at the gravel lot in Shindagin Hollow at 5:30, ready to ride by 5:40."
When in doubt, go faster.

Note that I've got the COE bike touring class Tuesday nights so I won't have that set of lights to lend out tomorrow.
