Tuesday Ride Thread

Planning a ride?

Re: Tuesday Ride Thread

I am going to try my best to get there for the ride tomorrow! It should be about 90mins from work to Waverly and I'll have to stop and grab the bike and dog on the way. I will text you Brenda if I can't make it in time. Can't wait to get back on the bike!

Wow Amy, that's some dedication!!! Christy and I are meeting at the Ithaca K-mart parking lot at 5pm to carpool. If that makes it any easier for you, I can fit you & your bike, too. Let me know...

I just miss riding with you guys, plus I would love to check out somewhere new :) Sounds great to car pool! One question, where is the K-mart parking lot..... I feel like I should know this but can't put my finger on it. Am planning to go into work early (so hopefully will get out early) but will text you either way when I know for sure that I can make it :)

We should be good to go. I don't see green blobs anywhere in the vicinity on the radar from now through this evening. :thumb:

Great ride down at the Glen last night! AmyBrown, Trailbait, Intyme, and I met up with Dave Perry, Dan, Jack, Louie, and Steve, representing the Waverly mtbers. I've ridden with all those guys at the Glen before at one time or another. IMO, the trails at the Glen are the most technical trails I've ridden in Central NY. It's like they pour special Miracle Grow for Tree Roots in the soil down there. Not to mention the creek crossings, which are numerous and rocky. However, when you misjudge the depth and run out of velocity in the middle of them, they make for a really awesome bike washing mechanism, especially at the end of the ride.

The plan was originally for Dave to take us on a preview of the Expert course. However, he ended up taking us on the Beginner/Sport trail instead due to the number of riders who showed up. He correctly predicted that the number of people would make it impossible to ride the Expert course before dark, and as it was, we had to take a shortcut back to the parking lot because we couldn't even finish the Sport course in the 1hr45m we had to ride. It's not that the course takes an insane amount of time to ride; just that there is a lot of stopping and going. The trail conditions were not too bad considering the recent deluge of rain. There were a few muddy stretches, especially on the newly constructed trails, but after the trails are worn in and we have a few days of sunshine, that should dry right up. We had a really great time. The Waverly folks are really friendly and fun to ride with. Dave is always willing to lead a tour of the Glen, so you can get in touch with him if you want your own preview of the course. I believe he has gps data for the trails if you want to go down and explore on your own, though, if you can find a time to ride it with Dave, it's worthwhile.

I don't know if it's marked yet. The beginner course is marked with pink ribbon, I think. I wasn't really paying attention. I think he has it all mapped out. If you get in touch with him, I'm sure he'll do his best to point you in the right direction.

Looking at the forecast, I'm not really expecting to be able to ride tomorrow night, but, if it's not raining, let's meet in the Hammond Hill parking lot and be ready to ride by 5:30.

Re: Tuesday Ride Thread--Location Change-CVSP

Postby BrendaSmith » Tue May 08, 2012 3:34 pm

I'm changing the ride location to CVSP tonight, instead of Hammond Hill. The ground is really saturated from all the rain we got over the past 24hours. Drainage is better at CVSP than anywhere else. We'll meet at 6pm in the Beach Parking lot. I apologize for the late notice, but it was toss up between changing the location or canceling the ride altogether.

Yeah, hopefully next time, Ray!

Bill, Carl, Jim and I rode approximately 8 miles last night. We did a large loop out to the Power Line Trail, hitting a fair number of the technical unmarked single track on the way through. The wet rocks and roots provided some extra challenge, but we took our time, and it was really quite nice out last night. It was raining pretty steadily when we started, but it didn't matter so much once we got under the trees, and then the rain stopped altogether at some point, and while wet, it was warm, so it wasn't an uncomfortable ride. It was misty and you could hear water dripping off everything. It was pretty cool, what I imagine it must be like in the PNW (since I've never been there). :thumb:

Hmm... yeah, I hadn't even looked at the radar yet today, but it's not looking too promising, is it?

If it's raining heavily, and thundering/lightning, the ride is canceled. I'll make a final call around 4:30, before I leave work.

Radar is actually looking pretty good for the evening, but I'm not going to be able to make it today. Trails should be...mediocre! Yea!

I'll take a mediocre ride over no ride. How can a ride be mediocre, anyway? Doesn't compute...

Radar looks like it'll be okay... so let's ride bikes!!!

I said mediocre trails, not ride. Mediocre trails, as in still wet and muddy. Actually, I'm sure the ride was great!

Totally Epic!!! Hahaha!!! 9 people + 2 dogs. We did an outer perimeter loop of the Yellows and Reds. Y1->Y3->Y4->R2->R1->Y5->Y8->Y1. Yes, we climbed up to the radio tower!!! Bill, aren't you sorry you missed that? We skipped the blue trail. It was fairly swampy out there, but it seems like it's been worse.
